KOPA 40YEARS 

 ATHLETIC was one the best clubs never to be Kopa Champions as it was their

misfortune they run into the AEL powerhouse.Athletic was was formed in the early 80s with many sponsors over the years like famous Meatland Suppliers

and Adamo of Bank of Cyprus,they made their first Cup final in 1982 but were  slaughtered by Olympiakos.George Evedesian was determined to bounce back and signed the Cyprus Kopa legend Varnava Christophi who inspired them to

their first major trophy against the odds defeating Nick Kyprianous Omonia superstars in the 1984 Challenge Cup,the club was on the map but were not

title contenders until 1988 were they finished 2nd to AEL along with losing to

Achna in the Division Cup Final.Athletic regrouped and installed Michalakis as manager who had his best moment in Kopa beating the Salamina dream team managers of Koureas and Varnava Christophi in the 1989 Challenge Cup,this

was the springboard for a big title assault in 1990 but was denied by AEL and beaten in the Cup Final.Athletic brought in Kopa Great Andy Artemi as boss in 1991 and battled a memorable 3-way title tussle with Omonia and AEL to miss out in the last game but made up for it winning the Challenge Cup beating the champions Omonia in one of the best ever Cup Finals,sadly 1991-92 was to  be the end of Athletic but without a doubt a club still missed in Kopa  .
