KOPA 40YEARS 

The Kopa Youth League was formed in 1988 and consisted of 4 teams which were (Paok,Salamina,Dynamo,Famagusta)the architect of the division was Mikkos Chrysostomou with Laki Chrysostomou and Savva Savvides chipping in as other clubs like Omonia,Athletic,Acheritou,Anorthosis,Achna,KLN followed in the intervening years.The Youth Division produced some great

talent with some becoming Kopa greats,the Youth Division was at its peak in the early years with games attracting big crowds,

the quality of matches and calibre of players was of a high level and taking in established Kopa figures opinions feel the stand

out best ever was the 1990-91 season.The two clubs that served up the fireworks and a title race thriller were Omonia managed by Kopa legend Jimmy Cattle and Salamina managed by Tony Antoniou with the reds just edging out Omonia by a point which mirrored the scoring charts with future greats Chris loannou pipping George Gregoriou.The Youth Division had so many good teams in the first 6 years of its inception but the 1991 Salamina team produced the best pool of talent with Nick Michael,Peter Panayiotis,George Kailou,Andy loannou,Bambos Gekkos,Chris loannou,Elias Constanti to name,many other clubs also produced great talent like George Gregoriou,Mike Costi,Greg Gregoriou and George Kyriacou from Omonia,Famagusta offered Vas Hava and Peter Antoniades,Acheritou with Hakan Altinok and Peter Panayi,Eleftheria with illy Cabadak,KLN with Tansel Ibrahim,Peter Theori,Dynamo with Junay and George Pantelides,Apoel with Kyri Kyprianou,Athletic with George Kettenis.The success of the Youth League owed a special thanks to LGR who played a huge part in its attraction with Doro Demetriou doing a great job in showcasing the division giving a platform for young players good enough to get blooded to their senior teams.There were other figures who played their part in the Youth league like Salamina legends Nicos Yiapatos,Serge Costa,Paul Pavlou,Perry Christou

at Eleftheria,Kypros Costi and Paul Panayi Acheritou,Mario Larkou and Bambos Kyprianou at Apoel,Akis Michael of KLN as the Youth League became a big part of Kopa for years before declining and being dispanded in 2007,it no doubt provided the route for many future Kopa greats to make their names in Cypriot Football.
